Have you met… Amy from Botanical Skincare?

Welcome to our ‘Meet the Maker’ series, where we stalk makers of things and hound them until they agree to be part of our blog.

First up, we’d like you to meet Amy from Botanical Skincare!

Name: Amy

What do you make/create?

A range of natural bath, body and Skincare products. Bath Bombs being one of the major parts of the business.

What inspired you to first go into business and make your own products?

I’ve descended from a long line of Self Employed/Entrepreneurs. It’s in my DNA to work for myself. I grew up in the rural Tasman area where my grandmother had a big English style cottage garden. Think rambling roses, lavender, chamomile lawns, lemon balm and box hedging.

We had a lot of exposure the herbs and flowers that could be used either for culinary purposes or topically. I felt this was also a huge part of my DNA and has inspire me along the way.

What’s one piece of advice you wish you’d had when you first started?

Make sure you back up your computer properly. Ahhh… I learnt that the hard way.

Oh, and don’t be afraid to employ people. They are a natural process of growth. I’ve always struggled with letting go of areas of my business but I’m learning to let go and with the right people behind you, you can achieve your dreams.

What’s your favourite product from your own range?

It’d have to be my Peppermint and Aloe Vera Foot Cream at the moment. It’s changes throughout the year.

How do you like to treat yourself?

A quality glass of pinot noir or a walk in the Abel Tasman… both are bliss.

What’s your go to place when looking for a gift for others?

My products obviously but all too often a good book store will offer up some great options.

Botanical Rose and Vanilla Hand Cream

What’s your favourite NZ made product?

At the moment I’m quietly obsessed with home knitted jerseys… especially children’s jerseys.

I have a five-year-old and an 18-month-old, and I’ve been appreciating the skill and the quality products that these amazing people create (mostly older women) more and more.

With the New Zealand wool industry being in decline in the past years, its surely about time for it to make a come back in a huge way.   #nzwool #nzmerinowool.

Who are some of your favourite small businesses?

As a wholesaler, I deal with many small businesses throughout New Zealand and Australia. They all have their own story but they are all truly amazing. They inspire me daily.

What can’t you live without?

Lately… my new Abel Odor natural perfume – Golden Neroli. It’s divine.

Where can we buy your products?

I’m in most of the main centers and towns throughout New Zealand as well as online at www.botanical.co.nz. You can find your nearest stockist either via our website or by messaging us. We will be sure to point you in the right direction.

And what are your social links?
